20 Years of Foxdale Village
A group of State College Quakers had a dream in the 1980s. For them and their friends, it became a spiritual commitment– a group testimony–to provide a continuing care retirement community that met the standards of their Quaker religious principles, and was open to all.

- 18 original residents, over 240 today
- Resident Association formed with 10 committees, in 2010 there are 38 committees and 18 interest groups.
- One registered nurse, now 12
- Full-time exercise specialist joins staff in 2006

Caring
Foxdale Village enables senior adults to live in its community while maintaining the highest degree of independence possible:
- 148 garden apartments today
- 57 new apartments opening December 2011
- 67 private health care rooms today
- 56 private personal care rooms and
- 46 private skilled care/32 in memory neighborhood coming in 2012
Supportive
Foxdale provides a supportive work environment for employees:
- 100 full time/100 part time employees
- Up to 50 new full/part time positions being added by 2012
- 53% of employees at Foxdale 5+ years
Serving
Foxdale serves the Centre County community in a number of ways:
- Multiple community events hosted by Foxdale in 2009 at no cost to sponsoring organizations.
- Affordable Housing Coalition member and conference host.
- Centre County Chamber of Business and Industry 20-year member.
- Residents and staff donate time, talent and treasure to numerous community groups.
Finances
Foxdale is a 501(c)(3) organization registered with the state of Pennsylvania, and is led by a volunteer board of directors, Executive Director Bill James, and an exceptional group of employees.
Our 2009-2010 fiscal year
This year proved to be a positive one for Foxdale. Below are some of the highlights:
- Foxdale held over one year’s worth of operating expenses in investment reserves
- The operating margin for the year continued to be on par with the industry mean
- Occupancy rates held above 94%
- Priority list has approximately 150 members
- The Community Fund had nearly $2 million invested to provide support should residents find themselves challenged financially
