DESCRIPTION:Foxdale Village welcomes Alex Ramos to the second floor art gallery. The show and reception are free and open to the public. Using small brushes\, careful color selection and abundant patience\, Alex Ramos executes lifelike depictions of things we encounter on a regular basis often without contemplating their details and intricacies. Subjects range from the organic\, such as fruits and vegetables\, to the manufactured\, such as glassware and pottery. Paying careful attention to nuances of color and the interplay of light with different surfaces and materials\, these still life paintings constitute a meditation on the beauty and complexity of the world around us. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVisiting hours are from 8:00am – 5:00pm weekdays and from noon until 4:00pm on weekends\, January 7 – March 23\, 2025. The opening reception will be held on Sunday\, January 13 from 3:30 – 5:00pm. \n\n\n\nFor further information please call the reception desk at 814-238-3322.

SUMMARY:Tipping Points and The Big Picture On Climate and Energy with Dr. Richard Alley
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Richard Alley\, is an Evan Pugh University Professor in the Department of Geosciences and is a leader of the Penn State Ice and Climate Research Center. His research has taken him to Antarctica\, Greenland\, Alaska and just about everywhere there is ice. Dr. Alley is a frequent speaker to both scientific and general audiences and has authored “The Two Mile Time Machine” (explaining ice cores) and many scientific papers. He is a presenter of the PBS miniseries “Earth: The Operators’ Manual”.The risks of climate change are well-documented\, with the potential for underestimated dangers and tipping points—thresholds that\, once crossed\, can trigger rapid\, irreversible changes. For example\, while sea-level rise is expected as oceans warm and ice melts\, surpassing certain thresholds could accelerate Antarctic ice loss\, dramatically increasing sea levels. Similarly\, wildfires could transform ecosystems like the Brazilian rainforest into grasslands\, and disruptions in ocean circulation may occur. Given these risks\, the benefits of transitioning to a sustainable energy system are likely even greater than widely recognized.This program is free and open to the public.
