Regenerative Solutions to New Climate Risks: Preparing for Wildfire in the Eastern U.S.

January 21, 2027 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Join Dr. Erica Smithwick, Distinguished Professor of Geography and Director of the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute at Penn State University, for an engaging discussion on the growing impacts of climate change and wildfire in the eastern United States. A nationally recognized ecosystem ecologist, Dr. Smithwick leads interdisciplinary efforts to develop innovative climate solutions and advance sustainable land management practices.

During this presentation, Dr. Smithwick will explore how changing weather patterns and climate conditions are influencing wildfire activity across the East, including Pennsylvania. She will discuss current research from the Eastern Fire Network (EFNet) and introduce Prepare PA, a new statewide initiative focused on building resilience to climate-related hazards. The program will highlight opportunities for communities to work together in creating sustainable solutions that support thriving ecosystems and a healthier future.
