When Facts Meet Fiction: Communication Strategies for Countering Climate Misinformation & Disinformation

August 13 @ 7:00 pm 8:00 pm

Every day, we encounter claims about climate change through news stories, social media, and conversations with others. While some information is accurate, other claims can be misleading or intentionally deceptive. In this engaging presentation, Dr. Janet K. Swim, Professor of Psychology and Associate Director of the Penn State Climate Consortium, will explore why some common approaches to correcting climate misinformation are often ineffective.

Drawing on her interdisciplinary research in psychology and environmental science, Dr. Swim will share practical, research-based strategies for identifying misleading rhetorical techniques, responding to misinformation and disinformation, and communicating climate science more effectively. Attendees will gain valuable tools for navigating today’s complex information landscape with greater confidence and clarity.

This program is free and open to the public.
